Welcome to February's Newsletter.

Welcome to February's newsletter.
Well it's still raining. I heard that until last week it had rained every day this year! I hope that you have been able to play some golf. I know that my home club Blackmoor has remained mostly open but many of you that recieve this newsletter are members elsewhere. Let's hope the worst of it is behind us and we can look forward to the season ahead.
Next month we have The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass to look forward to and you know what comes the month after that!
Why you are better on the range than the course.
Something I hear all the time is:
āI can hit it straight on the range but then it goes wild on the courseā.
Does this sound familiar? Iām sure it does and thereās very good reasons why this happens, let me explain.
Itās important to understand the key differences in environment between the range and the course.
Before we do that though, it is equally important to understand the value of the golf shot we play on the course. There are strong reasons why we do not want to hit poor shots. The obvious one is the effect on our score, but itās bigger than that. We donāt want to feel embarrassed in front of our playing partners or want others to judge us on our ability and this āfearā increases stress levels greatly.
Just think about this for a moment. You are on the first tee, a few groups of golfers are waiting behind you to tee off and thereās more on the balcony of the clubhouse watching too. You slice the ball out of bounds, how does that feel?
Now put yourself on the driving range. You hit the same shot. Compare the feelings. Very different I think youāll agree.
On the range you have a bucket of balls, on the course you get one go.
On the range you donāt have a scorecard, on the course every shot counts.
On the range there is no out of bounds, on the course there are multiple hazards.
On the range, no one is watching, on the course your playing partners see everything.
Can you see a pattern? It simply doesnāt matter in practice, so you relax, swing freely, maybe trust the swing feel that helps you even if it feels odd. But on the golf course it matters, there is huge value on the shot for the reasons stated above. You worry, tense up, try to control your swing rather than swinging freely and so onā¦
Can we transfer our range game to the course, yes we can.
Those who manage to do this can take the value out of the shot, not care about their score or what others think about their golf. Itās not easy to do but like all skills it can be learned.
A freebie for you!
To help with the above problem I have created a free 30 minute Practice Workshop.
You can access it by clicking the image below. I hope you enjoy.
Why I built The Scoring Club App
Having helped thousands of golfers over many years it became clear to me that improvement can come from many different angles. Of course having lessons will help you improve your technique but most of the time that's where it stops.
My aim is to give golfers the 'extra bits' that a single golf lesson can't give.
This includes help on how to practice to get the most out of your time on the range, course management advice, developing golfers mental skills to aid in performance on the course, and as you have just read above, to create a community of golfers who can support each other along the way.
I also wanted to create a product that gives golfers, who are not currently working with a coach, a chance to understand their swing with some help and advice that will apply to them as an individual - helping to diagnose swing faults by learning what ball flights to look out for. All of this is available in the FULL SWING section of the app which is free for life and the content inside will be growing immensly this year.
